A sensor array cable (1) and method of construction thereof utilizing a sensor/interlink assembly (3, 6) to facilitate the relatively easy and inexpensive installation of a sensor device (3) in a cable that includes a strength member (4) to provide tensile strength to the cable, optical fibers or wires for carrying electrical or optical energy to and from the sensor device, and a protective outer jacket (8). A portion of the protective outer jacket is removed allowing access to the inner strength (4) and optical fibers (7). A segment of the strength member (4) is removed and an interlink/sensor assembly (3, 6) is installed in its place. The interlink serves to maintain the tensile strength of the cable. Optical fibers (7) and/or electrical wires are connected to the sensor device for operation. The interlink/sensor assembly (3, 6) and associated optical fibers and electrical wires are then enclosed in an overmold (9) which is sealed to the outer protective jacket.
L'invention concerne un câble (1) à réseau de capteurs, ainsi qu'un procédé de construction de celui-ci, dans lequel on utilise un ensemble (3, 6) capteur/interconnexion afin de faciliter une installation rapide et bon marché d'un capteur (3) dans un câble qui comprend un élément (4) de résistance destiné à apporter une résistance à la traction au câble, des fibres optiques ou fils destinés à transporter l'énergie optique ou électrique, vers ou à partir du capteur, ainsi qu'une enveloppe (8) extérieure protectrice. Le procédé de l'invention consiste à enlever une portion de cette enveloppe pour pouvoir accéder à l'élément (4) de résistance intérieur et aux fibres (7) optiques, à enlever un segment de l'élément de résistance et à installer à la place un ensemble (3, 6) capteur/interconnexion, cette interconnexion servant à conserver la résistance à la traction du câble, puis à connecter des fibres (7) optiques et/ou des fils électriques au capteur, aux fins de fonctionnement et à enfermer dans un surmoule l'ensemble (3, 6) capteur/interconnexion, ainsi que les fibres optiques et les fils électriques associés, le surmoule (9) étant scellé sur l'enveloppe protectrice extérieure.
