A system is provided for tracking a free-space optical communications beam. The incoming beam is split by a beam splitter. One portion of the incoming beam is focused onto a high-speed photodetector. Another portion of the incoming beam is passed through a target pattern optical element. A resulting target pattern is formed on a two-dimensional active pixel sensor array. The alignment of the system can be adjusted based on the position of the target pattern on the sensor array.

L'invention est un système servant à capter un faisceau de communication lumineux qui est transmis dans l'espace libre. Le faisceau incident est décomposé en deux dans un diviseur de faisceau. L'une des deux parties résultantes est concentrée sur un photodétecteur rapide. L'autre partie est transmise à un élément optique de formation de configurations cibles. La configuration résultante est présentée sur un réseau bidimensionnel de capteurs actifs. L'alignement du système peut être ajusté d'après la position de la configuration cible sur le réseau de capteurs.
