A device and method allow for detecting the presence of microorganisms in clinical and non-clinical specimens. The device, a sensor (1), provides an environment to culture microbial organism colonies from a fluid sample, and a means to facilitate microbial detection and quantification, either manually or with an instrument. The sensor (1) has a microorganism immobilization matrix layer (10) and a sensor layer (12). Detected microbial colonies are immediately available for further testing. The sensor provides an area (2) for accepting a fluid sample, a mechanism to immobilize the fluid sample on an interior surface of the plate, nutrients to facilitate growth of microorganisms in the sample, and a sensor for allowing the detection and/or enumeration of microorganism colonies within the sample.
L'invention porte sur un équipement et un procédé pour détecter la présence de micro-organismes dans des spécimens cliniques ou non cliniques. Le détecteur de l'invention (1) offre un milieu permettant de cultiver des colonies de micro-organismes à partir d'un échantillon de fluide, et un moyen pour faciliter une détection et une évaluation quantitative microbiennes, soit manuellement soit à l'aide d'un instrument. Le détecteur (1) comprend une couche matricielle d'immobilisation des micro-organismes (10) et une couche de détection (12). Les colonies de micro-organismes détectées sont immédiatement disponibles pour d'autres essais. Le détecteur présente une surface (2) de réception d'un échantillon de fluide, un mécanisme pour immobiliser l'échantillon de fluide sur une surface interne de la plaque, des substances nutritives pour faciliter la croissance de micro-organismes dans l'échantillon, et un détecteur pour permettre la détection et/ou l'énumération de colonies de micro-organismes dans l'échantillon.
