90-302 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The sensor comprises a movable sensing element which is at least partially immersed within the fluid flowing through the pipeline, two electric coils for detecting movement of the sensing element as a result of a displacement due to the flow of fluid; and an electrical means for generating an electric signal representative of the detected fluid in response to the detected movement of the sensing element. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention the sensing element comprises a plate of non-magnetic material supported within a housing structure for oscillatory movement. The sensing element further comprises a head member attached to one end of the plate which is formed from a magnetic material such as a ferromagnetic material or a permanent magnet. As fluid strikes the sensing element, the head member is displaced from its neutral position. The two electric coils are supported within a casing for generating a magnetic field. By monitoring changes in the magnetic field due to displacement of the magnetic head member, various properties of the fluid flow in the pipeline can be determined.
