-14- ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A sensor for generating nuclear magnetic resonance signals, comprising a radio-frequency NMR coil whose frame accomodates a rotor with a test sample. The rotor is rotat- ably mounted in a gas bearing which is formed by the sur- face of revolution of the rotor, the internal surface of the frame and a gap between the above-mentioned surfaces. The compressed gas is delivered to the gap so as to produce the gas pillow of the gas bearing and to provide thermosta- tic control of the test sample. The rotor is provided with a rotation means.
