A sensor for detecting an acceleration on a surface. The sensor exchanges messages with a computer through a communication interface. The sensor includes an accelerometer; an interface unit for receiving a signal representative of the acceleration and modulating the signal for transmission to the computer; a processor connected to the accelerometer and the interface unit for controlling and managing the accelerometer and the interface unit; and a positioning circuit connected to the processor. The sensor is used in a system having an energy impulse generator for the non-intrusive physical analysis of a medium under the surface.
