A washroom device sensor uses at least one infrared beam that forms a longitudinal, rather than spot-shaped, sensing zone for detecting the presence of a user. The increased detection area of the longitudinal sensing zone ensures that at least a portion of the beam will contact a user using the washroom device. The beam may be adjustable in two or more directions to generate two or more sensing zones in different positions, allowing optimization of the sensing zone location with respect to a particular washroom device and the anticipated position of the device user.

Cette invention concerne un détecteur pour dispositif de toilettes faisant intervenir au moins un faisceau infrarouge qui détermine une zone non pas ponctuelle, mais longitudinale, et qui détecte la présence d'un individu. L'augmentation de la zone de détection garantit qu'au moins une partie du faisceau entre en contact avec un utilisateur du dispositif de toilettes. Le faisceau peut être dirigé sur deux directions ou plus et générer deux zones de détection ou plus dans des positions différentes, ce qui permet d'optimiser l'emplacement de la zone de détection par rapport au dispositif de toilettes et à la position prévue de l'utilisateur dudit dispositif.
