2112584 9302355 PCTABS00019 A gas detector (123; 123') is held in the inner member (5; 5') of a gas detector. The gas detector (123; 123') can be replaced by simply rotating locking ring (6; 6') relative to inner member (5; 5') to allow locking member (15; 15') to move radially inwardly. The entire second part (3; 3') can then be withdrawn axially and replaced by a similar second part (3; 3') housing a new gas detector (123; 123'). A locating pin (18; 18') on first part (2; 2') prevents second part (3; 3') being pushed home until it is aligned with notch (19; 19'). At this time pins (26, 27, 28; 26', 27', 28') on the board (29; 29') are aligned with sockets (26, 27, 28; 26', 27', 28') on the base (22; 22'). The locking ring (6; 6') is then rotated relative to the inner member (5; 5') to urge the locking member (15; 15') radially outwardly into an undercut portion (21; 21') of the first part (2; 2') thereby inhibiting separation of the first part (2; 2') and the second part (3; 3'). The present invention also relates to a tool ('T') for remotely dismantling and reassembling the gas sensor unit (G').
