ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The retainer for separably closing the row of fastener elements of a separable slide fastener is adapted to slide over the stringers and to receive both rows of fastener elements. Each row includes endmost fastener elements modified by cutting off their coupling heads. The height of each modified fastener element of one of the stringers is such that the modified elements can be received within the retainer without engaging the elements of the other stringer thus allowing smooth movement of the retainer.
