ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A separating material for thin layer chromatography is provided comprising a flat inert substrate having super- imposed thereon a 100-300 µm thick layer of a sorption agent consisting essentially of silica gel particles of which at least 80% are 3 to 8 µm in diameter, and not more than 10% of such silica gel being either below 3 µm or above 8 µm, and the weight related specific surface area of the silica gel particles is 0.5-0.7 m2/g.
