CASE 4869/CAN ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION In a method and apparatus for separating solid granular material of different densities material to be separated together with a control medium is fed to a first vessel 1 where it is divided into relatively heavy and light material and discharged through separate outlets 7, 8. The heavier material discharged through the outlet 8 is fed directly to the inlet 14 of the second vessel 2 such as a cyclone separator and further separated into two densities of material. Supplementary dense medium may be added to the vessel 2 through inlet 16 or 17 if required.
