A solid bed adsorptive process for separating a seed oil into two substantially pure triglyceride fractions. The process involves contacting a seed oil, such as castor oil, preferably as a concentrate, with an adsorbent in a bed, the adsorbent having a particle size greater than about 40 microns, and thereafter contacting the adsorbent with a desorbent material, preferably under minimal flow conditions, to obtain a raffinate output stream containing predominantly a second triglyceride and an extract output stream containing predominantly a first triglyceride. Purified fatty acid triglyceride esters obtainable from castor, vernonia, and lesquerella plant oils provide renewable, non-petroleum-based sources of chemical feedstocks.

L'invention concerne un procédé d'adsorption à lit fixe qui permet de séparer une huile de graines en deux fractions de triglycéride sensiblement pures. Ce procédé consiste à mettre en contact une huile de graines, telle que de l'huile de ricin, de préférence sous forme de concentré, avec un adsorbant placé dans un lit, l'adsorbant ayant une dimension des particules supérieure à environ 40 microns. Ce procédé consiste ensuite à mettre en contact l'adsorbent avec une matière de désorption, de préférence dans des conditions d'écoulement minimales, afin d'obtenir un flux de sortie raffiné contenant principalement un second triglycéride et un flux de sortie extrait contenant principalement un premier triglycéride. Les esters de triglycéride d'acide gras purifié pouvant être obtenus des huiles végétales de ricin, de vernonia et de lesquerella constituent des sources non pétrolières renouvelables de charges fraîches.
