Polyvinylaminals, optionally as the formed copolymer with polyvinylhemiaminals and polyvinylacetals are useful as separating agents and are provided by reacting a poly(vinylamine) or a copolymer containing vinyl alcohol and vinylamine units wlth a monoaldehyde. The aldehyde, such as butyraldehyde, can be introduced into the polymer aminalization as a liquid or gas, generally in a proportion of about 0.02 to 0.5 mol per mol of alcohol and amine units in the polymer chain. These polymers, especially as the cationic salt, perform very well in the flocculation, settling, clarification and dewatering of wastewater.

Des polyvinylaminals, facultativement sous la forme de copolymères avec des polyvinylhémiaminals et des polyvinylacétals, sont utiles comme agents de séparation et sont obtenus par réaction d'une poly(vinylamine) ou d'un copolymère renfermant des unités d'alcool vinylique et de vinylamine avec un monoaldéhyde. L'aldéhyde, comme le butyraldéhyde, peut être introduit dans l'aminalisation polymérique sous forme de liquide ou de gaz, généralement dans une proportion d'environ 0,02 à 0,5 mole par mole d'unités d'alcool et d'amine dans la chaîne polymérique. Ces polymères, particulièrement sous forme de sel cationique, se comportent remarquablement bien dans la floculation, la sédimentation, la clarification et l'assèchement des eaux usées.
