13 B 30699 Abstract Separation process and apparatus The invention relates to a process for separating gas bubbles from an aqueous medium in which they are entrained and to an apparatus therefor. In the process the aqueous medium is continuously circ- ulated round a system comprising a riser and a downcomer, connected at their lower ends, and a vessel connecting the upper ends of the riser and the downcomer and in which gas is disengaged from the aqueous medium using a separator which comprises a plurality of spaced plates stacked one above another. The invention has partic- ular utility in fermenters for the production of single cell protein.
