A separator finger apparatus and method for insertion of a separation finger (12) into and removal from a stream of web product (5). The unique motion provided by the elements making up the separation finger apparatus permits the separation finger (12) to be mounted close to folding rolls (6 and 7) with reduced separation finger to folding roll interference. The separation finger (12) is manipulated to rotate and translate simultaneously as it is inserted into or removed from the stream of web product (5). The elements creating the separation finger motion are preferably a pivot arm (20) mounted for rotation about a first axis (16) and a translation member (26) mounted for rotation about a second axis (24). The pivot arm is preferably rotatable coupled to the separation finger at a third axis (25). The separation finger is preferably coupled to the translation member (26) for translational or sliding motion therealong. With these connections, a rotational movement of either the pivot arm or the translation member about their respective first and second axes causes the simultaneous rotation of the translation member and orbiting of the separation finger about the first axis.
L'invention concerne un appareil pourvu d'un doigt de séparation, ainsi qu'un procédé visant à insérer ledit doigt (12) de séparation dans un train de produits (5) en bande et à l'en retirer. Le mouvement unique assuré par les éléments constituant l'appareil à doigt de séparation permet de monter le doigt (12) de séparation à proximité des rouleaux plieurs (6 et 7), l'interférence entre le doigt de séparation et le rouleau plieur étant réduite. On manipule le doigt (12) de séparation de manière à provoquer simultanément une rotation et une translation lorsque le doigt est inséré dans le train de produits (5) en bande ou lorsque le doigt est retiré dudit train. Les éléments générant le mouvement du doigt de séparation sont, de préférence, un bras pivotant (20) monté de manière à tourner autour d'un premier axe (16) et un élément (26) de translation monté de manière à tourner autour d'un deuxième axe (24). L'arbre pivotant est, de préférence, couplé rotatif au doigt de séparation au niveau d'un troisième axe (25). Le doigt de séparation est couplé, de préférence, à l'élément (26) de translation de manière à adopter un mouvement de translation ou de coulisse le long dudit élément. Du fait de ces connexions, le mouvement de rotation de l'arbre pivotant ou de l'élément de translation autour du premier et du deuxième axe respectivement entraîne la rotation simultanée de l'élément de translation et la rotation orbitale du doigt de séparation autour du premier axe.
