A separator for alkaline batteries is characterized by having a nonwoven fiber structure including polyamide fibers and solvent-spinning cellulose fibers as main fibers wherein the mass ratio of the polyamide fibers to the solvent spinning cellulose fibers is within the range from 20:80 to 80:20. The polyamide fiber is made of a polyamide wherein 60-100 mol% of the dicarboxylic acid unit is the terephthalic acid unit and 40-99 mol% of the diamine unit is 1,9-nonanediamine unit. The separator is excellent in the liquid holding property, does not deteriorate even when used in an alkaline battery wherein a positive electrode mixture including an agent for improving the discharge performance under heavy loads which has a strong oxidizing power is used, and can have good performance even after a long exposure to high temperatures. Therefore, the separator is suitably used in devices which requires discharge performance under heavy loads.

L'invention concerne un séparateur pour batteries alcalines, caractérisé en ce qu'il comporte une structure en fibres non tissées composées de fibres polyamides et de fibres de cellulose filées au solvant pour les fibres principales, le rapport de masse entre les fibres polyamides et les fibres de cellulose filées au solvant oscillant de 20 à 80 et de 80 à 20. La fibre polyamide est faite d'un polyamide où 60 à 100 % en mole de l'unité acide dicarboxylique est l'unité acide téréphtalique et 40 à 99 % en mole de l'unité diamine est l'unité 1,9-nonanediamine. Le séparateur de l'invention a d'excellentes propriétés pour contenir un liquide, et il ne se détériore pas, même lorsqu'il est utilisé dans une batterie alcaline. On utilise alors un mélange pour électrodes positives comprenant un agent améliorant la puissance de décharge sous fortes charges, ce mélange ayant un fort pouvoir oxydant. Ledit séparateur, qui reste très efficace, même après avoir été exposé à des températures élevées pendant longtemps, peut donc être utilisé dans des dispositifs qui nécessitent une grande puissance de décharge sous fortes charges.
