The present invention is directed to a separator (1) for separating lumber in a stack, which permits air circulation to reduce sticker stain, and which permits easy flowing of the boards as they are being unloaded. In accordance with the invention, this object is achieved with a separator (1) having a length (L), a width (W) and a height (H), a top surface (3) and a bottom surface (5), the top and bottom surfaces each having a central axis (A) extending along the length of the separator (1). The top and the bottom surfaces are provided with at least one ridge (10) extending along the length of the separator (1) and forming a zigzag or sinuous pattern. The separator (1) is preferably manufactured from wood.
