ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Novel organic selectively porous to electrolyte separator materials, capable of long cycle life in decp discharge conditions in secondary alkaline systems, com- prise a relatively high molecular weight and non-hydrolyzable, non-oxidizable polymer backbone having intermittent, pendant polar groups. Also disclosed is an analytical system for determining whether separator mat- erials should function satisfactorily in the alkaline environment of a secondary alkaline system.
