A gravity separator comprising a vessel (11) within which a mixture containing oil and water can separate under gravity to form vertically discrete oil and water layers, the vessel having an inlet assembly (14, 17) including a cyclone separator (17) for separating an oil containing inlet flow into gas and liquid phases, said assembly including ducting (21, 22, 23; 31, 32, 33; 34, 35, 36; 44, 45, 46; 61, 62, 63; 65, 66, 67; 70, 71, 72) for receiving the underflow of the cyclone separator and conducting said underflow into that region of the vessel which, in use, is above the water layer.
