This invention relates to new sequences obtained from Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains, which span the mecA right extremity. From these new sequences, oligonucleotide sequences have been designed and used to synthesize probes and amplification primers. Overall, these sequences provide for a more ubiquitous detection of MRSA strains. Sequences, repertories, probes, primers, diagnostic methods and compositions of matter are all described and claimed.
