ABSTRACT A cavity notch filter for series connection in a transmission line is disclosed which comprises a high Q cavity containing therein an inductively coupled L-C series circuit. When inserted in series in a transmission line, the notch filter acts as a high series impedance at, the resonant frequency of the cavity. At frequencies off resonance, the filter is characterized by low impedance so as to produce broad lateral pass bands. This notch filter finds utility in the construction of a multicoupler and enables reduced intermodulation interference and insertion losses compared to prior multicouplers constructed from conventional notch filters. Such a multicoupler comprises a number of signaling devices each connected to a different one of the notch filters which are connected one to another in series in a transmission line. Energy at all frequencies can then propagate down the line except the energy at the frequency of the respective signaling device. Energy of this frequency is blocked by the filter at a junction associated with the filter and is diverted to the respective signaling device.
