A composition for separating serum or plasma which comprises a cyclopentadiene oligomer, an organic gelling agent and a dispersant for the organic gelling agent. The organic gelling agent is a condensation product of sorbitol with an aromatic aldehyde. The dispersant is a polyoxyethylene/polyoxypropylene block copolymer having an HLB of 1.0 to 9Ø The composition makes it possible to prevent the evolution of any offensive odor due to radiation sterilization, clears away any effects of serum or plasma on biochemical test data caused by hemolysis, etc., does not undergo the phase separation of the components and yet sustains a good ability to separate serum or plasma, a high storage stability, etc., comparable to the conventional ones. In addition, the composition flows little when laid and stored and scarcely causes any reversion of the order of separation with the passage of time.

Composition pour séparer le sérum ou le plasma, renfermant un oligomère cyclopentadiène, un agent gélifiant organique et un agent dispersant agissant sur cet agent gélifiant. L'agent gélifiant organique est un produit de la condensation du sorbitol avec un aldéhyde aromatique. L'agent dispersant est un copolymère-bloc polyoxyéthylène/polyoxypropylène, à rapport hydro-lipophile de 1,0 à 9,0. Cette composition permet de prévenir l'apparition de toute odeur nauséabonde imputable à une stérilisation sous rayonnement. Elle dissipe toute incidence du sérum ou du plasma sur les données d'analyse biochimique résultant de l'hémolyse, etc. Elle ne subit pas de séparation en phases de ses composants et conserve néanmoins une bonne aptitude à séparer le sérum ou le plasma. Elle présente une stabilité élevée au stockage, etc., comparable aux compositions classiques. En outre, cette composition se répand peu lorsqu'elle est appliquée et stockée et entraîne rarement un inversement de l'ordre de séparation au fil du temps.
