Server time protocol (STP) messages and methods of exchange thereof are provided for facilitating synchronization of processing units of a timing network. The STP messages include exchange time parameters (XTP) commands and responses, and STP control (STC) commands and responses. XTP message exchange processing includes: generating an XTP message command at a first processing unit including a command transmit timestamp field set bythe first processing unit and a command receive timestamp field which is unset by the first processing unit; transmitting the XTP message command to a second processing unit; setting the command receive timestamp field in the XTP command with the time the XTP command is received at the second processing unit; and generating an XTP message response at the second processing unit, the message response including the command transmit timestamp set by the first processing unit and the command receive timestamp set by the second processing unit.

Cette invention concerne des messages STP (Server Time Protocol) ainsi que des procédés permettant d'échanger de tels messages, afin de faciliter la synchronisation d'unités de traitement d'un réseau de temporisation. Les messages STP contiennent des commandes et des réponses de paramètres de moments d'échanges (XTP), et des commandes et des réponses de contrôle STP (STC). La mise en oeuvre des échanges de messages XTP consiste à produire une commande de message XTP au niveau d'une première unité de traitement comprenant un champ d'horodatage de transmission de commande fixé par la première unité de traitement et un champ d'horodatage de réception de commande qui n'est par fixé par la première unité de traitement; à transmettre la commande de message XTP à une seconde unité de traitement; à fixer le champ d'horodatage de réception de commande dans la commande XTP avec l'heure à laquelle la commande XTP est reçue au niveau de la seconde unité de traitement; puis à générer une réponse au message XTP au niveau de la seconde unité de traitement, laquelle réponse contient l'horodatage de transmission de commande fixé par la première unité de traitement et l'horodatage de réception de commande fixé par la seconde unité de traitement.
