A B S T R A C T Electromagnetically actuated rotatable display element uses low coercivity magnetic core drive through cores running parallel to the rotation axes and permanent magnets on the element outside each end of the cores. The permanent magnets each comprise a layer of permanently magnetized high remanence material adjacent the core ends and a layer of soft iron or low remanence material remote from the core ends.
