Disclosed is a shadow mask for a cathode ray tube (CRT) and a method of manufacturing the same. The shadow mask includes a nitrogen compound. The method includes the steps of heat treating a metallic plate having a plurality of apertures formed therein using a nitrocarburizing gas, and press forming the metallic plate into a shadow mask shape.
