The invention pertains to a compositely constructed sulky shaft for use with sulky bikes in harness racing. The shaft comprises wood and reinforcing material laminated to parts of the shaft, the reinforcing materials allowing for a dimensionally smaller shaft in cross section but yet a strong shaft while providing a significantly lighter shaft than wood-only shafts of the prior art. The composite shaft has a tip portion, a receiver end portion, a vertical bend portion adjacent the tip portion and an elongate portion intermediate the vertical bend portion and receiver end portion. Preferably, reinforcing material is laminated to both sides of the receiver end portion and the intermediate portion but short of the vertical bend portion. The tip portion preferably has a reinforcing material insert layer laminated into a slit or split in the wood of the tip portion, the layer running perpendicular to the sides of the tip portion. The split and associated laminate insert to the tip portion preferably extends inwardly to the vertical bend portion of the shaft but short of the point where the reinforcing material laminated on the sides of the intermediate portion of the shaft stops.
La présente invention porte sur un brancard composite destiné à être utilisé avec un sulky pour courses sous harnais. Le brancard comprend des éléments en bois et des éléments de renfort laminés à des parties du brancard. Les matériaux de renfort permettent de réaliser un brancard de section plus petite, mais néanmoins robuste, tout en étant sensiblement plus léger que les brancards tout en bois des antériorités. Le brancard composite présente un bout, une extrémité réceptrice, une partie cintrée verticale à côté du bout et une partie allongée se trouvant à mi chemin entre la partie cintrée verticale et l'extrémité réceptrice. Préférablement, le matériau de renfort est laminé sur les deux côtés de l'extrémité réceptrice et de la partie intermédiaire, mais avant la partie cintrée verticale. Le bout comporte préférablement une couche de matériau de renfort introduit dans une fente de l'élément en bois du bout, cette couche étant perpendiculaire aux côtés du bout. L'ensemble fente et pièce rapportée laminée associée fait saillie de préférence vers l'intérieur jusqu'à la partie verticale cintrée du brancard, mais avant la fin du matériau de renfort laminé sur les côtés de la partie intermédiaire du brancard..
