ABSTRACT Shaft Mucker A shaft mucker comprises a control cabin 1 carrying a boom 2 which can be luffed by hydraulic rams 4 between a raised horizontal position and a lowered downwardly extending position. Suspended from the outer end of the boom 2 is a block 5 for carrying a rubble collector, preferably in the form of a pneumatically operated grab, -the block being suspended in such manner that it remains level when the boom 2 is luffed. Raising and lowering the block is effected by winching in or out the suspension rope 6 at one of its ends, the block carrying a hose reel 14 for automatically winding on and off a pneumatic pressure supply hose 13 for the grab as the block is raised and lowered. On top of the cabin 1 the mucker has an overhead support assembly 47 by which the mucker can be suspended from a hoist or supported by a sinking stage, and which has a slewing ring 48 so that the cabin is rotatable about a vertical axis to slew the boorn. To assist the mounting of the rnucker beneath a sinking stage the support assembly has a pair of arms 52 which are pivotally connected at one end 53 near the edge of the slewing ring and which haves rest position in which they extend across the top of the assembly 47. The mucker is lowered through an opening near the edge of a sinking stage by means of a hoist rope attached to the support assembly 47 and 59, and the free ends 54 of the arms 52 are engaged with hooks on the sinking stage. Further lowering of the mucker causes the arms 52 to pivot upwards into a vertical position and the cabin 1 together with the boom 2 to swing inwards beneath the sinking stage towards the centre of the shaft. The boom is then raised slightly to change the centre of gravity of the mucker sufficiently to right the cabin 1 and bring eyes 56 of the rnounting assembly 47 into registry with corresponding eyes on the sinking stage, and insertion of retaining pins through the eyes completes the mounting.
