- 1 - Abstract: A shaft torsional vibration monitor for the shaft system of a poly-phase generator and a prime mover turbine connected thereto comprises an electrical torque detector for detecting electromagnetic torque applied to the generator rotor, and a memory unit capable of storing a plurality of sets of torque variation data due to system disturbances that each have an initial torque variation rate more than a predetermined amount. A first processor fetches the sets of torque variation data one by one from the memory unit and determines the corresponding shaft torsional vibration. A second processor determines the fatigue and life expectancy of the shaft system by accumulating torsional stresses caused by the respective shaft torsional vibrations.
