Disclosed are selenium sulfide lotion shampoos containing low levels of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose as an agent to keep the selenium sulfide particles dispersed. The shampoo compositions contain from about 10% to about 30% of a synthetic surfactant, from about 0.001% to about 0.100% of a nonionic polymeric material, from about 0.1% to about 5.0% of particulate selenium sulfide having an average particle size of less than 25µm and water, as well as optional components.
