A self-retaining suture comprises a filament. The filament has retainers on the surface such that the filament can engage and retain tissue without knots. The filament comprises one or more materials at least one of which is a shape-memory polymer or shape-memory alloy. The shape-memory material is used to cause the shape of the retainers and or the filament to transition from a first configuration to a second configuration in response to a transition stimulus. The transition stimulus may be applied before, during, or after deployment of the suture in tissue. In particular, the shape-memory material may be used to enhance the formation, elevation and/or deployment of the retainers. Methods for manufacturing the filament and retainers are also described.

La présente invention concerne une suture auto-rétentive comprenant un filament. Ledit filament possède des dispositifs de retenue sur la surface, de telle sorte que ledit filament peut venir en contact avec le tissu et le retenir sans nuds. Ce filament comprend un ou plusieurs matériaux, au moins lun dentre eux étant un polymère à mémoire de forme ou un alliage à mémoire de forme. Le matériau à mémoire de forme est utilisé pour permettre à la forme des dispositifs de retenue et/ou du filament de passer dune première configuration à une seconde configuration en réponse à un stimulus de transition. Ledit stimulus de transition peut être appliqué avant, durant ou après le déploiement de la suture dans le tissu. En particulier, le matériau de mémoire de forme peut être utilisé pour améliorer la formation, lélévation et/ou le déploiement des dispositifs de retenue. Linvention concerne également des procédés de fabrication du filament et des dispositifs de retenue.
