A shaped article made of a high molecular polyester containing olefinic double bonds is disclosed. The polyester is prepared from an organic dicarboxylic acid and a mixture of an alkanediol (97.5 to 100 mol%) with 2-butene-1,4-diol (0 to 2.5 mol%). After shaping, the article is irradiated with an ionizing radiation. The dose is generally between 1 kGy and 2000 kGy and at least 200 kGy for the polyester which does not comprise 2- butene-1,4-diol. The shaped articles according to the invention have outstanding mechanical properties, such as high impact strength, elongation and impact strength. They are prepared from readily accessible and inexpensive monomers and can be readily recycled after use.
