The present invention provides a sheave assembly that has an easily replaceable and highly durable sheath for engaging and supporting cables. The sheave has a hub with a circular flange with a peripheral edge. A sheath with a groove sized for the cable to be carried extends around the outer periphery of the flange and is clamped in place by opposing metal rims clamped to each side of the flange and extending up around the sides of the sheath.
