ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus including a transporting frame for transferring individual glass sheets from one location onto a stack of such articles. An optical detector is mounted on the transporting frame for sensing the approach of the rapidly moving transported sheet as it reaches a position in close proximity to the stack for effecting deceleration of the rate of speed of the transported sheet for gentle placement thereof onto the stack.
