SHEET-LIKE DIAPHRAGMS FOR CONVOLUTED SHAPE CATHODES Abstract of the Disclosure In a conventional diaphragm electrolytic cell for the production of chlorine and caustic from aqueous alkali metal chloride solutions, the asbestos diaphragm is replaced by a continuous sheet or an endless band of porous polymeric diaphragm material attached to its own support members. Typically, the new diaphragm assembly of this invention is made up of three components, an upper diaphragm support frame, the continuous sheet of porous polymeric diaphragm material and the lower diaphragm support frame. The diaphragm can be made from polymeric material with a fluorocarbon polymer being illustrative of a suitable material. -1-
