ABSTRACT A sheet material for use as a cushioning insole or insertable insole, comprising a support layer which comprises a bound web of natural and/or synthetic fibres and a foam plastic layer of closed-celled, expanded, cross- linked polyolefin, the foam layer being welded to the support layer by flame veneering. There may be included a covering layer which is joined to the foam layer by flame veneering also. The sheet material allows the economical production of insoles which in their elasticity automatically adapt themselves to the orthopedic form of the foot in its various areas and which display a high resistance to chemical ageing.
