Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved resistance welding pin having a tubular shank throughout the major portion of its body, the distal end of the shank defining a sharpened tip which is arcuate in section and preferably having a similar radius of curvature as that of the remainder of the shank. By virtue of the tubular and preferably circular configuration of the shank, the heat of welding is more efficiently utilized, a greater amount of melting of metal being effected with a given amount of welding current than is the case with welding pins having conventional shanks, e. g. of flat or arcuate configuration. By reason of the reduced welding time required to effect a firm connection between the pin and the metal substrate, there is reduced danger of damage to the materials adjacent the welding pin.
