ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to method and apparatus for manufacturing a sheet of flexible plastic material capable of being manually altered to selected width. A plurality of parallel, laterally spaced longitudinal slits, preferably penetrating one-twelfth to one-half the thickness of the material, are formed parallel to one edge of the sheet, defining a plurality of marginal side segments, which may be manually removed, leaving a generally straight and even edge, thereby producing a usable sheet of reduced width. Preferably, the slits are rendered inconspicuous by being made no more than 0.025 mm in width. Apparatus to carry out the method comprises means for drawing plastic sheet material from a supply roll, and either drawing it between a support member and a multiple blade cutter biased toward the support member, or alternatively, disposing the sheet incrementally on a suitable support member, for slitting by a reciprocally moving multiple-blade cutter.
