ABSTRACT This invention relates to a shelf apparatus using rollers. On the shelf frame, horizontally extending roller conveyors are mounted in a plurality of vertically spaced stages. The free rollers of the roller conveyor in each stage are divided into a plurality of groups in the direction of transport. Driving devices are provided which are operatively connected to and disconnected from the free rollers for each group to forcibly rotate the free rollers. In two adjacent groups as viewed in the direction of transport, when there is no load at least on the downstream group as viewed in the direction of transport, the free rollers are simultaneously forcibly rotated by the driving devices so that a load is transported from the upstream group to the downstream group. Thereby, loads are successively fed from the upstream group to the downstream group. In the most downstream group, the present of a load results in the free rollers assuming the non-rotated state, waiting for the load to be carried out. -35-
