SHIFT NETWORK HAVING A MASK GENERATOR AND A ROTATOR Abstract of the Disclosure In a uniform shifting network the shifting function is divided into two basic hardware sub-functions: rotation and mask vector generation. By decomposing the basic shifting function into two basic hardware sub-functions, a structured architecture is achieved comprising basic functional blocks having functions which are dynamically controllable. Modular rotation and mask generation hardware permit optimization of hardware implementation and shifting operations. In preferred embodiments thereof, the separate rotation and mask generation implementation of the present invention is disclosed in field transfer operations involving from one to four steps and in an extended shift operation. - 1 -
