A shin pad for use in ice hockey and possibly other sports is described. The shin pad includes a lower brace element positionable along the front of the player's shin and securable to the player's lower leg, and an upper brace element positionable along the front of the player's lower thigh and securable thereto. A shin shield is secured outside the lower brace element. The lower and upper brace elements are pivotally connected to each other by pivotal connections on lateral and medial sides thereof, the pivotal connections being positionable on lateral and medial sides of the player's knee, in general alignment with the axis of the player's knee joint. To restrict or prevent hyperextension of the knee, the shin pad includes stop means arranged to prevent rotation of the upper and lower brace elements beyond a selected maximum permissible extension angle. To maintain protection when the knee is flexed, the upper and lower brace elements preferably include overlapping arcuate kneecap portions, one on each of the brace elements, arranged such that no gap between them when the knee is flexed. As the stop means, the upper arcuate kneecap portion may come into contact with the shin shield when the maximum permissible extension angle is reached. Further features of the invention will be described or will become apparent in the course of the following detailed description.
La présente invention vise une jambière conçue pour les joueurs de hockey sur glace et, éventuellement, d'autres sports. La jambière comprend un élément de protection inférieur qui peut être placé le long du devant de la jambe du joueur et être fixé au niveau de la cheville, et un élément de protection supérieur, qui peut être placé et fixé le long du devant de la partie inférieure de la cuisse du joueur. Un protège-tibia est fixé sur la face extérieure de l'élément de protection inférieur. Les éléments de protection supérieur et inférieur sont réunis par des connexions pivotantes fixées aux côtés externe et interne des ces derniers, lesdites connexions pivotantes pouvant être placées sur les côtés externe et interne du genou du joueur, dans un axe généralement parallèle à celui de la rotule du joueur. Pour empêcher ou prévenir l'hyperextension du genou, la jambière comporte des moyens d'arrêt aménagés de façon à empêcher les éléments de protection supérieur et inférieur de tourner au-delà d'un angle d'extension maximal admissible. Pour maintenir la protection lorsque le genou est en flexion, les éléments de protection supérieur et inférieur comportent de préférence des parties genouillères chevauchantes en forme d'arc, une sur chacun des éléments de protection, disposées de façon à ne laisser aucun écart entre elles lorsque le genou est fléchi. Comme le moyen d'arrêt, la moitié supérieure arrondie de la genouillère peut entrer en contact ave le protège-tibia lorsque l'angle d'extension maximal est atteint.
