- 25 - SHIRRED CASING ARTICLE METHOD AND APPARATUS ABSTRACT A shirred casing article including a compacted strand of shirred casing functionally engaged about a tubular core, wherein the core is formed with end portions which capture an axially compacted length of the strand to the core without interferring with subsequent deshirring. The end portions preferably are formed while the casing strand is being held under compression so that a fully compacted length is captured to the core.
