SHOCK ABSORBING STOP FOR PROSTHETIC DEVICES Abstract There is described a shock absorbing stop (17) for hinge type prosthetic devices comprising a first body (19) of relatively low modulus elastomeric material positioned to make first contact with a movable force transmitting element, such as the condyles of a prosthetic knee, of the prosthesis, space adjacent (21) the first body in a location adjacent the force transmitting element to receive lateral elastic flow of the elastomeric material, and a second body (18) of relatively higher modulus material adjacent the space for making contact with the force transmitting element after the space has been filled by lateral flow of the lower modulus material. The bulk modulus of the lower modulus material and the elastic modulus of the higher modulus material then serve to support the static loading.
