A system for breaking obstructions in body lumens includes a catheter including an elongated carrier, a balloon about the carrier in sealed relation thereto, the balloon being arranged to receive a fluid therein that inflates the balloon, and an arc generator including at least one electrode within the balloon that forms a mechanical shock wave within the balloon. The system further includes a power source that provides electrical energy to the arc generator.
Le système ci-décrit permet de casser les obstructions dans les lumières corporelles et comprend un cathéter comprenant un support allongé, un ballonnet en relation scellée autour dudit support, le ballonnet étant disposé pour recevoir un fluide qui gonfle le ballonnet, et un générateur d'arcs comprenant au moins une électrode à l'intérieur du ballonnet qui crée une onde de choc mécanique à l'intérieur du ballonnet. Le système comprend, en outre, une source de courant qui fournit l'énergie électrique nécessaire au générateur d'arcs.
