ABSTRACT A shoe sole component of a soft foam material which has been cut from a block of the foam so that it has at least one surface on which the cells of the foam have been opened by the cutting. The surface is coated with a continuous film of elastomeric material which closes those cells and gives good mechanical properties to the component. The soft foam material may be a closed-cellular, expanded, cross-linked polyolefin, and the film may be an elastomeric poly- urethane having an average thickness of about 0.1 to about 0.3 mm. The film may be applied as a coating and may be coloured.
