A system for monitoring con- tents of a tray located beneath a bas- ket of a shopping cart (10) as the latter is passed through an aisle (12A) ad- jacent a checkout station (14A) hav- ing a point of sale terminal (60A) ca- pable of receiving a signal through a communications interface which sig- nal prevents completion of a transac- tion unless overridden by operator in- put of one of a product and an over- ride code. The system includes appa- ratus (28, 30) adjacent the aisle (12A) for detecting and signalling presence of the cart (10) in the aisle, appara- tus adjacent the aisle for scanning a space above the tray of the cart to de- tect and signal the presence of objects thereon, and apparatus responsive to signals from both said cart detection apparatus and the object detection ap- paratus to output said signal to the communications interface of the ter- minal, thereby forcing the operator to enter one of a product and override code.
Système de surveillance du contenu d'un bac situé au-dessous du panier d'un chariot (10) de supermarché tandis que le chariot est poussé dans une coursive (12A) adjacente à une caisse (14A) munie d'un terminal (60A) de point de vente apte à recevoir un signal par l'intermédiaire d'une interface de communication, ce signal empêchant d'achever une transaction tant qu'il n'est pas annulé par un opérateur introduisant un code de produit ou un code d'annulation. Le système comprend un dispositif (28, 30) contigu à la coursive (12A) permettant de détecter et de signaler la présence du chariot (10) dans la coursive, un dispositif contigu à la coursive et permettant de balayer un espace situé au-dessus du bac du chariot afin de détecter et de signaler la présence d'objets sur le bac, ainsi qu'un dispositif sensible aux signaux provenant à la fois du dispositif de détection de chariot et du dispositif de détection d'objets afin de transmettre ledit signal à l'interface de communication du terminal, obligeant ainsi l'opérateur à introduire un code de produit ou un code d'annulation.
