ABSTRACT A method of, and apparatus for, short-circuit arc welding using at least one supply source for the arc current and a welding wire which from a reel and via a welding wire guide is fed to a workpiece to be welded. During a time in- terval Tb an arc is substained between the welding wire and workpiece, in which a substantially constant power is develop- ed and a welding bead of constant dimensions is produced at the welding wire. The welding bead is then, in a time inter- val Tw, transferred to the molten pool in the workpiece as a result of the welding wire speed and a short-circuit current for separating the bead and wire is applied after a constant delay time Td following the instant of short-circuiting.
