The invention uses a pair of curved opposed diagonal bars (24, 26) between a shot wad (12) and shot cup (16). The bars (24, 26) (deformable resistance members) buckle in the radial direction and end up basically flat between the shot wad (12) and shot cup (16) to give sur- prisingly and unexpectedly high amounts of collapse (80 % or more). This allows the space between shot wad (12) and shot cup (16) to be decreased signif- icantly without sacrificing cush- ioning.
