ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE . A shoulder belt adjusting apparatus of the type including a vertically adjustable belt anchor in which the shoulder belt is slidably mounted includes a slide supporting the belt anchor, a guide rail slid ably supporting the slide, a threaded shaft vertically mounted on the guide rail, an internally threaded sleeve on the shaft which moves along the rail with the slide when the shaft is rotated, and a pin on the sleeve loosely connecting the sleeve to the slide. Both ends of the shalt are rotatable connected to the guide rail, the top end of the shaft being suspended from the upper end of the guide rail With this structure, tensile stress but not bending stress acts on the shaft, so that the apparatus can be miniaturized.
