-2- ABSTRACT In a "throw-away society" such as ours, there appears to be a concomitant loss of conservation consciousness on the part of the consumer. The present use and subsequent disposition of worn-out snow handshovels and scoop handshovels are one example of this phenomenon. These two types of shovels, during normal use, are subjected to a great deal of abrasion and impact. After several years of use, their blades become so badly damaged and/or worn that the shovel is totally scrapped while the wooden handle and all accessories are still "like new". In this invention, the "life" of this type of shove would be extended almost indefinitely through the application of a false, protective blade called a shovel-saver. The shovel-saver would be construct from high-impact, flexible linear polyethylene, and when used as a protective device, would prevent any "wear-and-tear" of the shovel blade. The shovel-saver would be an "environmentally friendly" product as its application and use would be tantamount to a recycling process.
