A shower pipe assembly for a rotary drum filter comprises an elongated enclosure having opposing ends defining a length therebetween. The enclosure has an upper surface extending longitudinally along the enclosure. The enclosure has a lower surface extending longitudinally along the enclosure. The upper surface opposes the lower surface so as to define an opening therebetween extending a major portion of the length of the enclosure suitable for discharge of a liquid from the enclosure. In another aspect of the invention, a shower pipe assembly for a rotary drum filter comprises an elongated enclosure having opposing ends defining a length therebetween. The enclosure has a first surface and a second surface, the first surface opposing the second surface so as to define a spacing therebetween suitable for discharge of a liquid from the enclosure. A spacing mechanism interconnects the first and second surfaces, so as to be capable of adjusting the spacing so as to vary the amount of liquid discharged from the enclosure.
